My mission is to bring my knowledge of business development, marketing, design, and strategy together for you, to deliver a superior result that brings you at least one step closer to reaching your business objectives.
After graduating from California State University Fresno in 1993, I started Gael Force Imports, which became a large and rapidly growing catalog business and eventually grew into the largest Celtic mail-order business in North America. I imported authentic Celtic jewelry (we even worked with the jeweler to the Prince and Princess of Wales), artwork, and music. Then, overnight, everything came to a screeching halt. Our offices were burglarized and literally everything we had worked for went down the drain. All of our computer systems and hidden backup copies were stolen, which meant we had no more customers. Talk about stress!
Yet, good things can come out of misfortune. Following the burglary, I took a hard look at what I was going to do. The ‘good times’ were gone, but through Gael Force I had discovered a love of marketing strategy, advertising, and design. I loved it when a catalog that I had designed, or had a hand in designing, had generated tangible results in the form of orders and very loyal customers. Because of that, I had already been helping friends with their marketing and design. Some of continue to have prosperous import businesses to this day! It only seemed natural that I continue working in a field I loved, so I became a designer while honing my marketing knowledge.
Since all of this hit before the Internet became a ‘thing’ (Adobe Photoshop had barely reached version 5.0!), I certainly never foresaw that I would be designing websites. Designing websites is now something I love to do because it combines strategic thinking with design, analytics, and behavioral psychology.
Goldleaf Creative is a “micro business”. I’m a one-man show, but don’t let that put you off. I will work with pretty much any kind of business. I do most of the work myself because I’m a perfectionist.. But I also have a huge group of friends who can handle anything I throw at them.
When I’m not working, I teach old samurai martial arts and personal defense. It’s something I’ve done for over 30 years. My wife and I have been married for 25 years and we have two adult sons who are out learning to earn their keep and become responsible citizens.
I have had a long connection with Japan since the age of fourteen. I love pretty much everything Japanese – especially Japanese design and paper craft, which I believe is the best in the world. I love photography (something I hope to do more of), the outdoors, and traveling the world.
